We want to know a bit about your family life.
I am happily married to the love of my life. Together we have six
children, four daughters and two sons. We are grandparents to three
granddaughters and one grandson. We also have three fur babies, two sassy cats,
and a silly, but lovable, spoiled German Shepherd.
What drives you to write romance stories?
My husband inspired me to write romance stories. He is the best
friend I never knew I needed. He is a true romantic at heart. In fact, many of
my male characters are based on some aspects of my husband.
Do you have hidden messages woven into your stories?
Yes, I do. Love conquers all. The power of love reigns in every
one of my books. It is always good to believe in destiny and a higher power.
Evil may win a battle or two, but good always wins the war.
What’s the best thing about your writing and publishing routine?
The best thing about having a routine is the freedom to do it my
own pace. Sometimes life gets in the way, I try not to put too many demands on
my time so I can relax and enjoy the journey. When I try to do too much or I
get pressured to finish last minute, my body and writing suffers.
What steps did you take to publish your first book?
I sent query letters, submitted to publishers, and asked other
authors questions on how to go about publishing. After many rejections and missteps, I settled
on self-publishing.
How did you come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s your
favourite character and why?
My latest release is one that was ten years in the making. My
Passion's Pride cat shifter series. Each book is a stand alone and a different
cat each time. Leonessa is a lioness and Alejandro is a jaguar. The first book,
Passion's Pride Leonessa, was written ten years ago and I released the second
one, Passion's Pride Alejandro, this year in March. Alejandro came from my selection
of jaguars, I studied them, their habitat, mating, hunting, and predatory
habits. The jaguars were very interesting since they live in South America,
having them become a Mayan tribe was not difficult at all. In fact, they have a
natural predator, the anaconda, and that is how I added in the book as a rival
tribe.
My favorite character, (the others will forgive me for playing
favorites), is Leonessa from Passion's Pride Leonessa. Her book is also some of
my best writing. I am a sensory writer, I want the reader to use all of their
senses to experience the story as it comes to life in their mind as they read
it. Leonessa, besides being lioness shifter, is also a healer. She is trained
by the wise elder, Lethera, who is based on a priestess in New Orleans. Since I
am from there, I used what I have learned and lived through in my life about
herbs, healing, spirituality, and the supernatural. That is why I write
paranormal romance. The rest is my imagination. All of my characters believe in
something greater than themselves and I honor that in their stories. Leonessa is some ways, like me. I have a big
heart and want to help others heal. All of my heroines have some of me in some
form or other.
What’s the hardest thing about the publishing process?
The editing, typesetting, spacing, and technical part in the
publishing process can be the most frustrating at times. Creating is the
easiest for me.
Why should a new reader buy your book(s)?
They should buy it because they have an interest in the paranormal
or romance and they like immersive reading.
Working on a new book/project?
I am working on three currently, a historical romance called
Nefari India's African Queen, The Desert Flower, (my first fairy tale romance),
and The Blood Bonds, book two of my Dominique LeRoy Vampire novel series.
Brag
about any awards or badges.
I
have an award for best book cover, November 2019, for The Grand Dame of Bourbon
Street. It is book one in my Dominique LeRoy Vampire Series.
Any
thoughts on Black Lives Matter Movement?
I
am definitely for justice for those who have lost their lives due to ignorance
and fear of those in authority. I say fear because they are afraid we will do
to them what they have done to us. Our lives matter because even after our ancestors
were set free, fought for civil rights, we are still not seen as equals. As a
people, we are not a threat, but I do believe that if we all, no matter what
race or nationality, stand up together against those who seek to keep African
Americans and people of color around the world in slavery, we will make a
difference. Be it outright racism or subtle, hidden racism that enslaves the
mind, the spirit, and soul needs to stop. Vote, participate in your community,
give back, help others, lift each other up.
We
have to unite as a people and work together and stop the “whole crabs in a
barrel thing,” being jealous of one another so we fight among ourselves. It
makes us look weak, and if they can keep us divided, we will surely fall. Ashe.

Read the blurb of Mahogany's book, Passion’s Pride Alejandro below:
Don't forget to grab a copy of any of her books!
"The
Maya jaguar shifters have lived in the Sonoran Desert of Sonora, Mexico, for
hundreds of years away from human eyes. However, their home is threatened by
the building of a food and bakery manufacturing plant in Alamos, Sonora, owned
by Groupo Susteno, a corporation that Rosa Carrillo, head of the Carrillo
Cartel
Alejandro Aapo Cadmael is the son of King Gabor Cadmael, who is training him to
lead the tribe and help him choose a worthy queen. Alejandro has other plans,
he prefers to hang around the music and art loving humans in Alamos, and play
his guitar.
Regina
Hightower is a human conservationist from Tucson, AZ who has a special ability
to communicate with animals. When she arrives in Novajoa, Sonora on her way to
Alamos for the ten day Alfonzo Tirado Arts and Music Festival, she gets more
than she bargains for when a luggage mix up puts her in danger with three drug
coyotes who work for the Carrillo Cartel. They think she has stolen five
million dollars in cash from them.
When Alejandro
has a premonition of Regina's fight with the drug coyotes from thirty miles
away, he rushes to Novajoa to save her. Regina is holding her own, even
breaking the nose of one of the drug coyotes, until one of the men holds a gun
to her head. When Alejandro knocks the man out cold, saving Regina, he takes
her on the run to keep her safe from the cartel and they fall in love. However,
when Alejandro's father dies in a shoot out with the cartel enforcers and
mercenaries, it forces Alejandro to become king. Now that Alejandro is a king,
Regina doesn't feel she would make a worthy queen. Can this reluctant jaguar
king lead his people, protect his homeland and make Regina, a human, his
queen?"

A BIT MORE ABOUT ~ Mahogany
I write interracial
paranormal romance books. I also host a podcast called Mahogany Says on
Thursday nights where I give book reviews, live reads, play audio books and
music, and interview new and established authors of all genres.
I was born in New
Orleans, LA, and raised by a single mom who gave me a good foundation. Besides
being an author, I am a wife, mother of six and grandmother of four. I am also a former personal trainer and
bodybuilder. I took 2nd place overall in
my first Women's Bodybuilding competition in 2014, fulfilling a dream I had as
a teenager. I completed it in my 40s! However, life happens and in 2017, I
needed back surgery and in 2019, neck surgery. I don't like taking pain pills,
so I had my doctor put in permanent spine stimulation. I literally have to
'charge' my battery in my back every Friday! My kids jokingly call me a cyborg!
I took a long break from writing for about 8 years, and I will publish a book of my life's story as fiction to protect the innocent. It's called Kimmie Ray: A Ray of Hope. I am so happy to get back to doing what I love!
Every so often, I reinvent myself. I never stop learning, growing, changing, all to become a better version of myself. I now live in Warner Robins, GA with my husband and two of our six kids, our pets, two cats and an 80 lb German Shepard.

It is a real pleasure to have you on my blog. Thoroughly enjoyed your interview.
1. How do you juggle taking care of a large family, a thousand other workload and everything else in between?
2. I love your merchandise place. I had a goal to have a website like that last year. But I have not achieved it yet. Share your story on how you got it set up.
3. I'm a seafood fan. My top seafood is scallops. What's your number 1 seafood?
Thank you so much for the interview! It wasn't easy, We used a white board to schedule everyone's extra curricular activity, appointments, etc. I always wanted a family and I certainly enjoyed having each one of my children around! Lots of love, playful moments, heated moments, tense and frustrating ones, but I would not change it for the world.
I set up my shop after publishing my novel, The Grand Dame of Bourbon Street. I loved the characters and the setting. I thought maybe others would too, so I designed the shirt after the vampire nightclub, The Blood Rose. It is the official tshirt that the character, Jason LeBlanc, wears as a bartender at The Blood Rose. It was easy to set up at teespring.com. There are easy to use tools to add your logo to the products and how to guides to set up your store. All free!
My favorite seafood is king crab legs, catfish and shrimp.
Thank you so much, Mahogany for sharing your tips for the store with me💓 It means a lot. I wish you the best deariw.
