We want to know
a bit about your family life?
Well, I am
married, 15 years, with three kids, 1 girl, 2 boys, all grown. Recently we
started our own family business taking me away from the corporate world,
FINALLY! It's a little daunting, but I love it nonetheless.
What drives you
to write romance stories?
I'm a sucker
for love in all its facets. Having seen so much of it growing up and
always having it to give, it's one of the rarest yet fulfilling things that
anyone can have.
Do you have
hidden messages woven into your stories?
Sometimes, yes.
Especially since I write interracial romance. The current racial climate drives
a wedge between the humanity factor and lines are being drawn among the races,
although I am sure that is not what is intended by the majority.
What’s the best
thing about your writing and publishing routine?
From the first
key or pen stroke to those elusive two words every author loves to see
"The End", the creation of the worlds and seeing them come to
life the moment you hit the publish button is the best for me. I still get
butterflies and nearly regurgitate each and every time.
What steps did
you take to publish your first book?
I asked a lot
of questions, did a lot of research and created an outline. Even as I wrote, I
continued Googling and bookmarking images and articles, job descriptions,
wardrobe, vehicles. Everything I needed to make my Undeniable Series come to
life. I even ate at one of the places mentioned and traveled to Turks and
Caicos, also mentioned.
How did you
come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s your favourite character and
why?
I honestly
don't know. LOL! I can recall just listening to a song well, a playlist I
created and thought wouldn't it be great if I wrote a story about a dancer? I
had ideas left and right, but it didn't end up the way first envisioned. It was
better.
If I had to
choose a character from my most recent, it would be Tessa Gordon, my heroine.
She is a true go-getter. She sees what she wants and goes after it. Her dreams,
goals, even her crush. I admire that about her.
What’s the
hardest thing about the publishing process?
For me, I would
say that marketing is the hardest. That requires a know-how of algorithms,
keywords, and money. While one thing is a no-brainer, the other two require a learning
process that no one ever mentions. However, I am learning.
Why should a
new reader buy your book(s)?
If a reader is interested in strong Black
female heroines, who are headstrong, albeit sometimes hesitant, but are real,
love who they love, and don't try to make anyone fit into what they imagine a
man to be, loving unconditionally, then they should buy my books.
Not to mention I hear the sex is pretty hot.
Working on a new book/project?
I am always
working on something. LOL! I have multiple projects in the works. There is a
Fairytale Retelling, Once Upon A Time Box Set, coming out August 11th, Love Me
Always which is a Black Romance Anthology benefitting the NAACP Legal Defense
Fund comes out in September, and another set, Country Temptation Box
Set comes out in January. I'm thinking of a holiday novella, otherwise I
still have a slew of projects.
Brag about
any awards or badges.
Yes. I was voted one of the Top 50 Sexy Writers by Publishing Addict 2015.
Any thoughts
on Black Lives Matter Movement?
I stand with
#BLM because I am black, married to a black man, raising two black Kings, and a
Queen. I have to stand for them because those before me, my ancestors, stood,
sat, walked, organized, and beat me. I am not for those using the cover of BLM
to riot and loot in the name of justice. That's not what the organization is
for. The movement is for racial justice and to fight against the police
brutality and oppression we have faced for centuries on top of centuries
on top of centuries. We have had enough and we must act in order for our voices
to be heard.

"Darkness

only love can do that."
I hope you enjoyed getting to know Author ML Preston.
Read the blurb of ML Preston's book, Crash below:
Don't forget to grab a copy of any of her other book!
When you watch someone grow up, you don't
expect to fall in love with them. That's how I felt when I came to the
realization I saw my little sister's best friend as more than just the girl
from across the street. After being roped into attending her dance performance,
I had
no choice but to accept Tessa Gordon for the vivacious beauty she
is.
To say everything came to life that evening
would be an understatement.
But there she was, staking her claiming,
forcing me to man up, and let her know how I've always felt.
And things were great...
Until the unthinkable happened, giving me a
crash course on love, compassion, and what it means to be utterly devoted to
someone.
I'm Austin Lancaster and I save lives for a
living. I never thought I'd have to save hers.

Hello Sexy Writer, nice to have you on my blog. I loved your interview.
You mentioned the fact that Marketing is one of the hardest things in the publishing process, what had been the simplest, low cost marketing strategy you have tried that worked for you?
Just like you stated, racial injustice is one of the goals of #BLM. In your opinion, how do you think this can be corrected?
Hey, Flirty.
One of the easier, cost effective marketing strategies that has somewhat been proven, are low cost ads or boosts. Always word of mouth, and to an extent, posting, posting, posting.
It will take years for correction, but a vote will promote change. When I say vote, I mean from city levels on up.You have to make your voice be heard and it starts at the ballot box. We also have to have our allies use their voices to amplify ours as well. But still, it will be a process. Hopefully love will drive out hate.
