We want to know a bit about your family life.
I am the oldest of six. I am currently in
a relationship with the best imperfect angel I have been with.
What drives you to write romance stories?
I love a good love story. Romance has
always been my favorite genre. Love is also one of my great attributes.
Do you have hidden messages woven into your stories?
Yes. I write under the three Es, educate,
entertain, and encourage. As a Christian romance author, I use the encourage
method the most. I never know what my readers are going through when they pick
up one of my books. Most importantly, I want my readers to know that they
deserve to be love no matter the circumstances.
What’s the best thing about your writing and publishing routine?
I am my own boss, who is working for a
much higher boss. Normally, I will put out two books a year, but this is my
most productive writing year. I am almost done with my third book of the year.
I came up with a writing technique two years ago. I call it the Billion Words
Journey, which means I will focus on one chapter in my main book and one page a
day in my next line up.
What steps did you take to publish your first book?
At first, I was signed to a publishing
company, but due to some disagreements about the book, I was relieved from my
contract. I was nervous about self-publishing. I always wanted to be signed,
but I saw this as a blessing in disguise. I ending up re-releasing my book back
in 2018. People are still reading my first baby.
How did you come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s your
favourite character and why?
At first, the book idea for Finding Love was
initially a play under a different title. I wasn't feeling the whole story at
first and I must admit I tossed the book aside. I believe God wanted me to
write this story because someone needed to read it. I love Adriana, who is my
protagonist. I saw myself as Adriana, who is reluctant especially when a guy
wants to help her.
What’s the hardest thing about the publishing process?
I must say that the hardest part about
publishing is the day the book is released. This is my first book in over four
years that has given me the best results from the past three weeks. I do miss
being a best seller, but as long as someone reads my books, then I am totally
fine.
Why should a new reader buy your book(s)?
I want the new reader to read my books not
just to get educated or entertained but to receive a word of encouragement that
will marinate his or her soul. As I stated, I never know what my reader is
dealing with on a day to day basis.
Working on a new book/project?
I am currently working on four new books.
I am keeping titles to myself.
Brag
about any awards or badges.
I have been nominated for Author Academy Award for
Best Young Adult for First Kiss and Best Christian Romance for Love Don't Come
Easy Part One.
Any
thoughts on Black Lives Matter Movement?
As a black author, black lives do matter to this
Queen. Black children deserve to have representation of themselves in books.
Black women need protection and uplifting. Black men, who respect and love
black women and children, deserve more recognition. Black LGBT people need
love. Black authors deserve a spot on the Best sellers list. I hate how things
have gotten to this point for my people (black people). What most people don't
know is that I am an activist, advocate, and feminist for women, Interracial
families, and LGBT communities. Black people make up a majority in those
communities. I am always rooting for the Black woman. I am always fighting for
the Black woman.
