I’m Stella, Author & Publisher of 40 Flirty & Feisty Romance Novels. I’ve been married to my too-hot-to-handle, sexy husband for over 23 years, we have two adult children to God’s glory and live in London, UK. My romance stories feature sexy heroes who have hearts and souls and curvy heroines who are smart and know what they want. My lively, flawed characters who on their quest to find love will elevate your pulse rate, make your heart skip here & there, so that you’ll laugh, shed a tear sometimes and gasp for breath as their story unfolds. If an emotionally intense happy-ever-after is what you want coupled with a sprinkling of life lessons, turn to chapter one now & start reading. When I'm not writing, I'm having a laugh watching movies with my honey-boo, swimming like a star fish, or on mom duties with my grown-ups, or praising God in my own corner of the world. I dare you to read any or all of my steamy romance stories. I’ll love to hear from you.

#BlackAuthorsMatter ~ #AuthorInterview with @moniboyce

Hello Romance Lovers,

Welcome again to my Series on Black Authors Matter. After my New Release; Longing for You: A BWWM Sweet & Steamy Romance hit Amazon #1 New Release in African Literature on June 1st 2020 and became a #1 Bestseller on 17th June 2020, I decided to start a movement to promote Black Romance Authors or Authors who write about characters of colour.

In the coming months, I'm going to showcase one black romance author after another and their great books.

It's Friday, so lie on a recliner, grab a chilled drink because you are about to meet the number 18th Black Romance Author on my list. Her name is Author Moni Boyce! Moni was born in California, moved around Germany, Texas and Virginia but she currently lives in Virginia, USA.

AUTHOR: Moni Boyce

BOOK TITLE: Love Delayed In Dublin

GENRE: Interracial, Contemporary romance

RELEASE DATE: June 23, 2020
WORD COUNT: 52K+ words

Drum roll please...

We want to know a bit about your family life.

I’m divorced with no children, but hoping to marry again at some point. I come from a military family and I have two sisters, one of them is my twin.

What drives you to write romance stories?

I love telling stories, but there is something about writing about love that makes me happy. I love that happy endings can lift someone else’s spirit. No matter what’s going on, if you pick up a romance and start reading it, you’re guaranteed to end up with a smile on your face.

Do you have hidden messages woven into your stories?

I wouldn’t say anything is hidden. I usually have themes that run through the stories I tell. In my first book, Redemption of the Heart, some of the themes I dealt with were redemption and forgiveness. In my paranormal romance series, I deal with family and how family doesn’t always mean blood family.

What’s the best thing about your writing and publishing routine?

I’m an indie author. I chose that because I get to make all the decisions. I get to decide what book will come out and when. I get to decide what I want my book covers to look like. That’s what I love about my publishing process. I’m in control.

What steps did you take to publish your first book?

I did a lot of research and educating myself on self-publishing before I released my first book. I had the book professionally edited. I started by author branding before I put my book out. I set up a website. I also made it a point to network with other authors by attending a National RWA conference before releasing my book, because at the time I did not have an author community or tribe. I took courses on marketing for Amazon ads and Facebook ads. I also created an ARC team so I would get reviews up on the first day of the release. I decided to release wide and not just on Amazon. At the time, I didn’t want to set up vendor accounts at five different places so I used an aggregator, Draft2Digital to upload my book to platforms like Apple, Kobo and Barnes and Noble. I was only direct with Amazon and Google Play. I also knew I wanted to offer a paperback so I set up an account with Ingramspark. I used a PR company for and I also put out a press release.

How did you come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s your favourite character and why?

Love Delayed In Dublin, is part of a shared world series that I’m in with about eleven other authors. Each of us chose a letter of the alphabet and then had to choose a location that would be the setting of our story. I knew I wanted it to be an international location, so I chose Dublin, Ireland, because I’d been there. I knew I wanted my story to be a second chances romance, so I decided my characters met on New Years and then circumstances kept them apart. I had the movie Serendipity in mind when I thought about them meeting and then not seeing each other for a long span of time.

It’s always hard to choose just one character, especially in this book. Writing Jordan and Conor was fun. I enjoyed writing the interactions between them. Even writing the secondary characters was fun. They help keep things interesting.

What’s the hardest thing about the publishing process?

Marketing. You never know what’s going to work, because it changes from one book to the next. Just because it worked for that particular book, doesn’t mean it’s going to work on the next one. The other thing that’s difficult is time management as an indie author. You’re juggling a lot. You’re a one-woman band. Everything falls on you. I do hire out for different things like book covers and editing, but social media and marketing, those things are my responsibility. That in and of itself can be a full-time job. You have to get really good at managing and scheduling to ensure you’re doing those things and reaching your writing goals.

Why should a new reader buy your book(s)?

They should buy my books because I create characters that I think are relatable. I come from a film background so I write very visual stories.

Working on a new book/project?

I have so many things in the pipeline. My paranormal romance series, The Oracle Chronicles, is getting a spin-off series this fall. I have a couple of anthologies I’m participating in. I’m starting a motorcycle club romance series and another contemporary romance series as well. Plus, I will have a Christmas novella during the holidays.

Brag about any awards or badges?

Recently, I was nominated for five Emma Awards at the 2020 Romance Slam Jam Virtual Romance Book Con.
I won two of the awards. One award was for Debut Author of the Year Award, and the other was for Best Commercial Romance.

Both were for my debut book, Redemption of the Heart. I was very honored and humbled.

Any thoughts on Black Lives Matter Movement?

I’m really happy to see more people get behind the Black Lives Matter Movement. It’s very important to me. I’m hoping that we can bring about change. I know it’s not easy, but I try and support as much as I can. I donate, sign petitions, talk about it on my social media. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, I would join some of the protests, but I’m immunocompromised so I try to be very careful about being in public spaces right now, especially since there are quite a few people that don’t want to wear masks. I hope more and more people continue to understand the importance of this movement, and become strong advocates and anti-racist allies that won’t be afraid to speak up.

Jordan Cross and Conor Byrne shared one magical New Year’s Eve in NYC... and then he disappeared.

Eight years later, Jordan still hasn’t been able to forget her
Irishman. When her long time boyfriend proposes, Jordan realizes she should have broken it off long ago. Is she destined to land the wrong guy—or find real love? She knows the answer lies halfway around the world, in Dublin. If she can just find Conor, she can put their unfinished business to bed.

Conor was only supposed to run the family pub and care for the family, until his father got well. By now, he’s resigned himself to the role and abandoned his own dreams. Seeing Jordan walk into his pub is both amazing and terrifying—because although the passion they feel still burns bright, their worlds don’t work together.

Committing to each other will mean hurting someone else, but they'll have to risk it all to find a love that’s real.
