We want to know a bit about your family life.
I’m a single mother that loves anime and video
games. I also share a house with my mother. So we have 3 generations under 1
roof. I also have 2 pet fish.
What drives you to write romance stories?
I write romance because I believe in hope. Romance
is the one genre where you’re going to get a happy ending. That’s a hope that I
think everyone in the world needs.
Do you have hidden messages woven into your
stories?
LOL, I don’t even know where to begin with this
question. I like to litter pop culture and little easter eggs in everything I
write. Everything from names of various characters, to magic abilities are
pretty much in every chapter.
What’s the best thing about your writing and
publishing routine?
The best thing is bringing it to life with the cover.
And figuring out the story as I’m writing. (I have an extremely loose outline
when I write.)
What steps did you take to publish your first book?
No one
wants to follow what I did for my first book. LMAO. I wrote it. My best friend
made the cover. And I put it up. I didn’t run a spell check. It’s embarrassing.
I’ve done some edits since. But it’s really a hot mess. But it’s also a lesson
learned. Don’t do what I did. LOL.
How did you come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s
your favourite character and why?
Here’s the
long answer LOL (See the hidden messages answer for the short version). The idea
for Tempered started from 2 things. An article where Jordan Peele said he
wanted to do a live-action Gargoyles movie, and a picture of Angela Basset and
Henry Cavil at the Mission Impossible: Fallout premier. I love the way they
looked together, figured out how to make gargoyles just as sexy as vampires,
and since the world isn’t ready for Angela as a vampire that rules over a city,
I was going to make her book #4. So for book 1, I was watching the Originals.
Since I love Elijah I wanted him to be my hero to start with. The heroine, Augustina
(Gus) was someone I had been thinking about for years. I didn’t want her to be a
damsel. And with Elijah being so grounded and focused on his duty, I wanted her
to be the damaged and tragic heroine.
And with
this series, I think my favorite character is Gus’s sister Mel. She has her own
level of damage that no one except her destined hero sees. Gus’s scars have
always been on the outside. Mel carries hers inside. I just adore the Vega
sisters.
What’s the hardest thing about the publishing
process?
Honestly…
everything except writing the blasted book LOL. The promotion, the ads, the
blurbs, waiting to see if people will like it or hate it. It’s worse than
waiting for test grades in high school.
Why should a new reader buy your book(s)?
Because I
write from a different angle. Yes, my books are romance, but they have more plot,
action and intrigue than your average romance. I would like to think my books
are more at home with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural crowds than
with Jane Austen.
Working on a new book/project?
Always. I
have a novel coming out in October called Stolen Moments.
Book 2 of the Et Lapis
Sanguis series, Crystallized will be out in March.
Another novel is scheduled
for June. I’m always working. And I love it.
Brag about any awards or badges.
Aside
from winning an award in 2016 for One for Sorrow, I really don’t have any. I DID
win Camp Nano this April and will be going again in July.
Any thoughts on Black Lives Matter Movement?
I’ve
stayed quiet about Black Lives Matter for a lot of reasons. I honestly feel
that this is a movement that shouldn’t NEED to take place. No one should have
to be thankful that their brother was killed in a motorcycle accident instead
of being afraid he would be killed by “law-enforcement.” But here we are. The call
for change is upon us. And it’s up to us to make it heard.

But when Mel is attacked and Gus is the only one to face the mysterious foe and
live, she ends up right where she never wanted to be again.
