The #Woman in #Marriage - Faithful Woman

Welcome to the continuation of The Woman in Marriage series.

Series six is titled - The Faithful Woman

Several weeks ago, I mentioned in series one that I was invited to speak to a group of married women about - The Woman in Marriage - during their Mother's Day Symposium.

To read the first post on The Forgiving Woman, click here & for the second post on The Praying Woman, click here & for the third post on The Virtuous Woman, click here. The fourth post on The Wise Woman is here. And for last week's post on The Submissive Woman, click here.

This week, I'm going to share some truths about The Faithful Woman in marriage.
6. The Faithful Woman – Elizabeth was a faithful woman – Luke 1

The Book of Hebrews defines Faith as “the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” Heb 11:1-2.

(i) The woman in marriage has faith in God, her Maker. She knows that without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to God must believe that HE is and that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. Heb 11:6.

How does she build her faith?

(ii) The woman in marriage builds her faith by spending time reading, marking, memorizing and meditating on the word of God, because she knows that FAITH comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God.

(iii) To obtain a good testimony, the woman in marriage walks with God, knowing HE will never forsake her.

Elizabeth, a relative of Mary, the mother of Jesus, was the wife of a priest named, Zacharias. She was a descendent from the lineage of priests (Aaron). Zacharias and Elizabeth were both blameless before God. Luke 1:6.

The question is, how did the daughter of a priest, married to a priest remain childless even in her old age?

Gabriel, an Angel of the Lord told Zacharias his wife would bear him a son. Zacharias, a priest, who was burning incense in the temple at the time, did not believe. For his doubts, he was struck dumb for the period of Elizabeth’s pregnancy.

But Elizabeth had no trouble believing the prophecy because she was a woman of faith. Elizabeth trusted her God. She conceived and gave birth to John the Baptist. Elizabeth and Zacharias raised John the Baptist to fear, honour and to serve God. Jesus said of John the Baptist, “Among those born of women, there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist.” MT 11:11.

(iv) The woman in marriage raises up her children to love, honour, serve and fear the Lord.

Faith means obedience and belief even when it does not make sense to believe.
Dear women, the same trend continues today. There are times in your marriage, when you wonder how your husband, the head of the home, the Pastor of the Church, the Choir Leader or Bishop shows little faith in times of affliction or trials.

The closer your husband or you are to God, the greater your temptation might be. And the greater your victory and testimony. Sarah, whose husband, Abraham was a friend of God, and talked with God, remained childless until age 90. But Sarah and Abraham's testimony are  so great, they live on.

(v) A faithful married woman will commit to a difficult marriage.

In my lifetime, I have witnessed a few marriages fall apart. It hurts so badly, words are not enough to describe the pain and the challenges that engulf the family.

(vi) But always remember, the woman in marriage has the power to make choices every single day and in every situation.

(vii) And every decision the woman in marriage makes, bear fruits - good or bad. She and others have to live with the consequences.

(viii) For the woman in marriage, staying faithful to her marriage vows and her God is not an option, it is the only choice.

Cheating on her husband because he has been unfaithful is not the way out.

I pray and hope that you and I will make the right (Godly) decisions at all times and may our marriages be filled with joy, love, peace, healing and innumerable gifts.

The series concludes next week with the Patient Woman. Thank you for visiting.

#Brides From #Africa #CameroonianBride #TraditionalEngagement

Welcome to Brides From Africa!

It is great to be back with Brides From Africa. On today's ride, I have beautiful photos of brides from the West African country of Cameroon.

In my search for scoop, I stumbled across a traditional wedding inspired invitation. It is unique and lovely.

Invitation is courtesy of Artbecomeyou
In Cameroon, the traditional engagement starts when the groom approaches the bride's father to get his initial approval to court his daughter.

Once the two families meet, an engagement will be officially announced and the bride's father will decide on how much the marriage payment will be. It is paid as a sign of respect and good faith.
The groom pays a bride price to the bride's family. The bride price consists of 10 tins (250ml or 60 gallons) of palm oil, a barrel of meat, cash for bride price, as much firewood as the groom's friends can provide, and a married woman’s outfit.
The groom's family offers kola nut and alcoholic drinks to ask for the bride’s hand in marriage, as a mark of friendship and honour.

After the sharing the kola nut, the groom is asked to recognize and choose his beloved among other women. Salt is also presented by the groom to the bride's family as a symbol of friendship, loyalty, abundance and fertility.

After the groom identifies the bride, her father asks his daughter to share a glass of drink with the husband to be.

The couple is attired in Aoghu, particular to the North Westerner part of Cameroon
After the official wedding ceremony, the bride will return to her parents' home to be cleansed and covered with camwood, then she will officially be "handed over" to her husband.

I want to leave you with a popular Cameroonian proverb - Beauty is an empty calabash.

The #Woman in #Marriage - #SubmissiveWoman

Welcome to the continuation of The Woman in Marriage series.

Series five is titled - The Submissive Woman

Five weeks ago, I mentioned in series one that I was invited to speak to a group of married women about - The Woman in Marriage - during their Mother's Day Symposium.

To read the first post on The Forgiving Woman, click here & the second post on The Praying Woman, click here & for the third post on The Virtuous Woman, click here & for the fourth post on The Wise Woman, click here

On today's session, I'm going to share some truths about The Submissive Woman in marriage.
5. The Submissive Woman – Sarah was a submissive woman

Sarah the wife of Abraham is a great example for Christian wives. Sarah imbibed the injunction; “Wives submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” Eph 5:22.
Sarah submitted to her husband and called him lord. Her attitude was to love her husband and not look for anything in return. She did as Abraham instructed and in return, Abraham was pleased with his wife.

When Abraham and Sarah journeyed to a place called Gerar as commanded by God, Abraham said to Sarah, “This is your kindness that you should do for me. In every place, wherever we go, say of me, he is my brother.” Gen 20:13 And, Sarah obeyed her husband.

When Abimelech, King of Gerar asked Abraham who Sarah was to him, Abraham said, Sarah was his sister, and Sarah agreed. So King Abimelech took Sarah to his palace.

The truth was, Abraham was afraid he might get killed in a foreign land by people who did not fear God, and his beautiful wife taken away. So he asked Sarah to lie that she was his sister.

But guess who intervened to stop Abimelech from sleeping with Sarah? God Himself!

God appeared to King Abimelech in a dream and rebuked him. God asked the king to restore Sarah to her husband.

God is interested in your marriage. HE keeps watch over you and your family. When you submit to your husband’s will, the Lord keeps watch over you, to save you, even if your husband makes a ‘mistake’.
Although in truth, Sarah was Abraham's half sister!

I have to confess to you that of all the 7 attributes, full submission to my husband’s will has been the most challenging one for me.

When you have always been an independent woman, a professional, a career-minded woman who is quick to make decisions at work and in her life, I tell you for a fact, you struggle to give over full authority to your husband at home.

From my experience in marriage counselling, I find that women who depend on their husbands financially, easily submit to their authority.

The woman in marriage must seek to please the Lord at all times, because when her ways pleases the Lord, HE makes her enemies to be at peace with her.

In order words, dear professional women of God, if you want peace and joy in your marriage, you have to remove your cloak of authority the moment you enter into your husband’s presence. You have to SUBMIT!

You would be amazed to discover how deep your husband’s love for you can be. Sometimes, you are unable to get your husband to do your bidding because you don't do what he wants you to do, when he wants you to do it.

I have a friend who told me that she makes carrying out the tasks her husband asks her to do, her top priority.

Until you FULLY SUBMIT to your husband in accordance to God’s will, you will not experience the full extent of God’s love, joy and peace in your marriage. I have experienced both sides. And even now, I’m still learning to be fully submissive.

What a mighty difference submitting to my husband's will has made in my marriage. Before I ask, my husband has done it. When I ask, he says, yes, Sweetheart, I will do it. PRAISE GOD!

The #Woman in #Marriage - #WiseWoman

Welcome to the continuation of The Woman in Marriage series.

Series four is titled - The Wise Woman

About a month ago, I mentioned in series one that I was invited to speak to a group of married women about - The Woman in Marriage - during their Mother's Day Symposium.

To read the first post on The Forgiving Woman, click here & the second post on The Praying Woman, click here & for the third post on The Virtuous Woman, click hereToday, I'm going to share some truths about The Wise Woman in marriage.

4. The Wise Woman – Queen Esther – The Book of Esther

“The wise woman builds her house but the foolish woman pulls it down with her hands.” Prov 14:1.

(i) The woman in marriage builds her home with love (cement) peace (bricks) joy (sand) and understanding (water).
(ii) She knows when to speak to her husband and when to hold her peace. A wise woman speaks wholesome words because a wholesome tongue is a tree of life, while vile words breaks the spirit. And out of the lips of a wise woman comes out a soft answer which turns away wrath. Prov 15:1.

(iii) A wise woman fears God and departs from evil (Prov 14:16) because she knows that a woman who fears the Lord, shall be praised. Prov 31:30b.

(iv) A wise woman has a merry heart. “He who has a merry heart has a continual feast (Prov 15:15b). She smiles, she is always cheerful and has a positive outlook on life.

(v) A wise woman respects her husband at all times even when she is hurt or angry.

Queen Esther

Esther was a Godly woman in the foreign land of Shushan. She was an orphan raised by Mordecai, her cousin. Her ancestors were taken as captives from Israel. Esther was a woman full of wisdom.

An orphan and a foreigner eventually married the powerful and influential King Ahasuerus who ruled  127 provinces from India (Asia) to Ethiopia (Africa).

Photo is courtesy of wikipedia
In everything, Esther sought the face of the Lord. When her nation, Israel was under threat of extinction by the self-seeking Haman, she listened to Mordecai’s wise counsel.

Mordecai asked Esther to go into the King, her husband. Esther told Mordecai; “I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:16b. She told Mordecai to ask the entire Jewish people to fast for her for 3 days. She knew the power of God to save.

(vi) A wise woman knows the power of God to save.

On the third day, she went into her husband, King Ahasuerus. Queen Esther risked her life. But the king put out the scepter (If he hadn’t, she would have  been put to death). The king told Esther to ask for anything up to half his kingdom.

Through Queen Esther’s wisdom and courage, the nation of Israel was saved and the enemy destroyed.

In contrast to Queen Esther, I want to share the story of an unwise Queen with you.

The Unwise Woman (Queen Vashti) - Esther 1

Queen Vashti was the dethroned wife of King Ahasuerus before Esther took her place. Vashti lost her exalted place at her husband's side, because she single-handedly pulled down her own house with her own hands.
Photo is courtesy of Googlesearch
The king sent for her to appear before him on the last day of the feast he held for the princes, nobles and the people throughout the provinces. He asked for her to wear her royal crown. The king's intention was to show off Queen Vashti's beauty.

But she refused to appear before the king. Queen Vashti humiliated her husband, his authority and the people.

For her foolishness, Queen Vashti was stripped of her position and she never appeared before the king again. Her place was taken by a more worthy woman, Esther.

Dear women, the power is in your hands. By your words and actions, you have the choice to strengthen or tear down your home.

Be very clear about this; The woman in marriage has the power to build or destroy her home.

The series continues next week with The Submissive Woman. Thank you for visiting.
