I’m Stella, Author & Publisher of 40 Flirty & Feisty Romance Novels. I’ve been married to my too-hot-to-handle, sexy husband for over 23 years, we have two adult children to God’s glory and live in London, UK. My romance stories feature sexy heroes who have hearts and souls and curvy heroines who are smart and know what they want. My lively, flawed characters who on their quest to find love will elevate your pulse rate, make your heart skip here & there, so that you’ll laugh, shed a tear sometimes and gasp for breath as their story unfolds. If an emotionally intense happy-ever-after is what you want coupled with a sprinkling of life lessons, turn to chapter one now & start reading. When I'm not writing, I'm having a laugh watching movies with my honey-boo, swimming like a star fish, or on mom duties with my grown-ups, or praising God in my own corner of the world. I dare you to read any or all of my steamy romance stories. I’ll love to hear from you.

#Bride from #Africa ~ #AngolaBrides #AfricanBrides #Wedding

Hello Romance Lovers, I'm back with Brides From Africa after a long break.

I hope you are keeping busy while staying indoors due to the COVID 19 lockdown.

This week, I have brought you Bride From Angola in central Africa. I found the traditional wedding custom exciting and unique. I hope you do too.

Angola Flag

Angola is a country located on the western Atlantic Coast of Central Africa. See the African map below. It has many neighbours including Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Republic of Congo.

Traditional Angolan Wedding Ceremony:

Angolan traditional marriage ceremonies vary from tribe to tribe. To demonstrate his willingness to marry their daughter and desire to be accepted into her family, the groom works in the bride’s father’s fields, or farms.

In addition, he also performs various household chores for the bride’s mother as part of the traditional wedding practice.

Once the bride's family approves of the groom, an older woman from the groom's family starts training the bride on how to be a good wife.

During and after an Angolan traditional wedding, the Wedding consultant plays a prominent role.

On the actual day of the wedding, the wedding consultant carries the bride on her back to the groom’s house. However, in some cases, if she can’t physically carry the bride then she walks with her to the groom’s home.

The wedding consultant organizes the engagement, carries the bride to the wedding chamber, checks up on the couple the morning after their first night of marriage to make sure everything is well with the newly-wedded couple.

According to Angolan customary weddings, the groom’s family gives gifts to the bride’s family. For a groom who has a good source of income, he presents clothing and other gifts to the bride and her family in lieu of working in the farms, fields and around the house.

The groom has a duty to prepare the matrimonial bed. He spreads leaves from the negwelulu tree as these leaves are believed to intensify sexual excitement.

After the wedding ceremony there is a lot of merrymaking, singing, dancing with lots of food and drink served to the enjoyment of the guests.

Interestingly, after the wedding, the groom and his new mother-in-law are not allowed to meet again until after the couple’s first child is born.

Cameroon is a country in West Africa. It borders Nigeria to the west, Chad to the northeast, the Central African Republic to the east, Equitorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of Congo to the south.

These Brides are from the tribe of Bamenda – also referred to as “Graffi” which means, people of the grasslands. The Bamenda people are mostly from the English-speaking part located in Northwest of Cameroon.

The Groom will typically approach the bride's father to get his initial approval to court his daughter.

Once the two families meet, an engagement will be officially announced, and the bride's father will decide on how much the marriage payment will be.

Among the Bamenda Tikar, the Groom pays a bride price to the bride's family.

The bride price consists of goats, fabric, oil, cash and farming tools.

During the traditional wedding of a Graffi person, most guests wear this traditional outfit that is, the Bamenda fabric also called the Atoghu.

There are so many rituals that occur during a traditional wedding.

One of them is when the family of the Bride tests the Groom to see if he can recognize his Bride-to-be.

At night, they parade different ladies whose faces are covered to see if the Groom will pick the his Bride.

When he finally chooses the correct lady, everyone rejoices.

The elders from both families represent the Bride and the Groom.

The Bride is not allowed to go to her Groom-to-be without the blessing of the elders in the family.

During this event, the Bride is given a drink that she must only share with her Groom.

The Bride must find her groom in the room full of men and give him this drink.

After the official wedding ceremony, the Bride will return to her parents' home to be cleansed and covered with camwood.

Afterward she will officially be "handed over" to her husband.
