The #Woman in #Marriage - Patient Woman

Welcome to the concluding part of The Woman in Marriage series.

Series seven is titled - The Patient Woman

Seven weeks ago, I mentioned in series one that I was invited to speak to a group of married women about - The Woman in Marriage - during their Mother's Day Symposium.

On today's post, I'm going to share a few truths on The Patient Woman in marriage.

7. The Patient Woman –  Gen 24 - 25

Rebekah was a patient woman.

The marriage journey as we found in series one, is a long and an uncertain path.

Marriages are froth with mixed issues. There are homes where the husbands ignore the needs of their wives. In others, there are rumours or evidence of betrayal, illegitimate children, emotional and physical abuse, interference from others, lack of communication and so on.

(i) As a woman in marriage, you need to allow the word of God remould your life. Patience is a virtue and a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

(ii) Whatever your situation, wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage, wait for the Lord. Ps 27:4.

Patience is the ability to WAIT, to ACCEPT, and to TOLERATE delays, problems and sufferings without becoming annoyed or anxious.

Rebekah was a beautiful virgin and a godly woman with a kind heart. She married Isaac. And she was barren. It took 20 years of prayers and her husband’s plea to God before she had children, twins – Jacob and Esau. Gen 25.

You need tons of PATIENCE to receive special gifts from God. All the barren women in the bible gave birth to divinely anointed children. Except one. The only woman recorded in the bible who renamed childless, was Michal, one of the wives of King David.
Michal (King Saul’s daughter) was cursed by her husband. Do you know why? She mocked King David when he danced before the Lord without restraint. 2 Sam 6.

(iii) No matter the marital difficulties, the patient woman seeks God’s face in prayer without giving up, until an answer is received. James 5:7-8.

(iv) The woman in marriage is patient with her husband, her children and others because of her love, and she knows she is just as imperfect as they are.

Rebekah was a patient woman who also knew when to lean on her husband. This was part of her strength.

(v) Love is patient and kind and so is the woman in marriage who vowed to love and to cherish her husband.

(vi) She is a contented woman because she knows that godliness and contentment is great gain. 1 Tim 6:6-7. Also she knows that we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain, we can carry nothing out.

(vii) The patient wife does not PUSH her husband to make money nor commits adultery to satisfy her ambition or monetary appetite. Instead, she asks God to teach her husband to make wealth, to establish the work of his hand and to rebuke the devourer from their resources.

(viii) The patient mother knows that children are not always going to get it right the first time. She is content to watch her child explore and discover, question and learn. She is not threatened by acts of rebellion because she knows who her authority comes from and how to correct the behaviour with love and firmness.

(ix) Like God, her Father, she knows that sometimes human hearts are bent on evil, yet God’s mercies are new every morning. Ps 103:14. And love covers a multitude of sin.

On the other hand, the impatient woman pushes her husband to commit crime to gain wealth, connection or political power. She seeks vengeance, finds it hard to forgive because she is too impatient to wait for God to respond.

Again, the impatient woman is pushed to disloyalty with ease, finds it a challenge to fully submit to her husband and to remain virtuous in times of trials  or hardship.

The impatient woman acts unwisely when she hurts her marriage or works against her husband because he refuses to do her bidding.

CONCLUSION

Dear women, there are many decisions you are going to make in your life and in your marriage. At all times, making the right decision is vital. The closer you are to God, the better the chance you have of making the RIGHT decision. As you make your bed, so you lie on it.

My plea to you is this, do not resent the weaknesses in your husband, children or in others, but prayerfully guard against them. Ask God to help them overcome their weaknesses to HIS glory. Remember to also ask God to help you overcome your weaknesses too.

Jesus says to you and to me; “I have said these things to you, that in ME you may have PEACE. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.”

(x) The patient woman is an embodiment of the six other attributes discussed in the entire series.

There is a song that ministers to me when I’m worried; WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS.

And another song that I find uplifting when I’m down or sick or afflicted in anyway;
YOU RAISE ME UP.

As a woman in marriage, you need the spiritual hotline number to God the Father. Jer33:3 “Call to ME, and I will show you GREAT and MIGHTY things which you do not know.”

Final quotes from movies: “If you think your husband and others are never going to fail, or you think you are not going to fail, you are a FOOL doomed to fail miserably.”

“Love is perfected by every trial and heartbreak, spend the rest of your life perfecting that love.”

My Prayer is that God will strengthen us to be the Godly women in marriage he created us to be.

Now unto God, Immortal, Invincible, the only wise God be all adoration and power in Jesus name, Amen.
