At Second Chance by @VickiBallante #NewRelease

Vicki's sharing a sizzling hot excerpt with you and also giving away $15 Amazon gift card, one ebook from Decadent Publishing and 3 bags of homemade soup swag.

Have fun.

At Second Glance

Vicki Ballante

Blurb:

Four years after her divorce, Merryn
decides she’s ready to find someone. Joining an online singles site, she connects with the perfect guy. Funny, sexy, sensitive. When he suggests they
meet, excitement compels her to say yes.

Kirk pines for his ex-wife, but realizes he must move forward. After several stimulating online chats, he
believes she might be the one for him. Smart, sexy, willing to experiment and learn. But when he happens across his ex, all his plans fly out the window.

Will Merryn learn to relax and have fun without giving her heart? Can Kirk forget the past and become the man he longs to be?

Excerpt

“Where did you meet this guy?”

“Online.”

“That’s not safe.”

“I trust him.” Fire spurted from her gaze.

She’d never trusted him when they’d been married. Never let him take the lead. How come time hadn’t healed the wounds? Instead, they’d festered inside him.

Online relationship? He felt the blood drain from his head.

“What?” Panic rose in her voice. “Are you Panda?”

He considered pretending otherwise. He could make his escape now and forget about the crazy mistake of meeting a strange woman in a restaurant because of an internet connection. Then he wouldn’t remember all those times he’d tried to reach out to her and she’d pushed him away and read her book or gone to sleep. The accusing words when she’d found out he’d been looking at porn. The hatred in her eyes when she’d asked him for a divorce.

“Are you?” She collapsed on the chair opposite him.

“I…I can’t do this.” He rose. “I’m sorry. You shouldn’t meet guys you don’t know.”

“It’s a public place.” There was a catch in her voice.

“I don’t remember you being so pale. Blonde doesn’t suit you.”

She wrapped her face in her hands and became as stiff as a corpse. A crack of sympathy passed through him for a moment, but he pushed it away. Yet, she was Hedge. The woman who wanted to experiment. Who hurt from a previous relationship.

He’d called himself a loser.

A laugh came out, sounding out of place, and then he laughed recklessly.

She jerked her head towards him, anger evident in the harshness of her features.

“I called myself a loser.”

“What?”

“It’s ironic, isn’t it? If we’d both gotten over all our baggage from our messed up marriage, maybe we wouldn’t be here, digging up all the past hurt.”

“I didn’t know who you were. I wouldn’t have
said those things to you. It’s the first time I’ve told anyone how I feel.” She
didn’t look good with her face screwed up.

He glanced at her body. Had that changed? Her breasts pressed tight against the black shirt she wore. He remembered the first moment she’d shown herself to him on their wedding night. Merryn had insisted upon waiting for that special night. Her reserve had made her all the more desirable to him. In the beginning.

What if he could have another chance to touch her body? She was still shaped to perfection. None of the other women he’d had compared to the beauty of Merryn’s body. The shape of her twins, those pink taut nipples, and the peaks contrasted against her narrow waist. The gentle dip from her slight stomach to her intimate area. He sighed.

“You still want to experiment?” He’d always been impulsive, but seriously, had he said that?

Author Bio:

Vicki writes erotic and fantasy romance. She loves taking her characters
into an alternate world where strange and sexy things happen. She lives with
her patient husband and three noisy kids in South Africa.

In between being a busy stay-at-home Mom who hates housework and spends half
her life cooking everything from scratch, she runs several blogs, writes under
another name, and buries herself in the delightful world of her characters.
When growing up, her school friends asked her if she wanted to be a nun. She
always said “no.” Wonder whether they’d agree if they read her books.

He will damn his soul to set hers free.

When workaholic high-flying career lawyer Tara Woji takes a well deserved break and meets

up with old friends she doesn’t realise the danger lurking in the shadows for

her. M’na is a chi, a gatekeeper whose duty is to protect the humans. Tara is

his assignment. As the shadows deepen and darkness comes to claim her, he will

do whatever it takes to protect her including doing the one thing that releases

her powers – unbinding her heart.

Prologue

M'na lounged in the worn foam armchair, thighs apart, legs
stretched out, right hand clutching a short tumbler of whisky. Lord of the Ring
posters covered up blue paint peeling off the brick walls.
Ironic really, the first time he was going to have sex in a
millennium and he'd chosen a demon with a love for fantasy movies, who lived
in a part of the city that could've been Mordor.
Desperation flowed in his veins, making him feverish. Sweat dripped
down his face. His t-shirt clung to his back, a second skin. He tightened his
grip on the glass to stop his hand from shaking and lifted it to his lips.

The strong liquor burned his throat as he tossed the whole
shot down. Thumped the glass back onto the small table and refilled it from the
bottle.

One of the advantages, or disadvantages depending on how one

chose to look at it, of being a super, alcohol had no effect in normal

quantities.

But he liked the sting of whisky at the back of his throat

and in his chest. It made him feel alive. Something he hadn't felt in a very
long time. Shame it couldn't numb the pain searing his soul, his constant companion.

Where is Uvbi? Cowries from a Prince #MidWeekTease12 #Historical

Hello and welcome to MidWeek Tease organized by Sandra Bunino. Midweek Tease is a platform for authors and writers to give a peep into their published book or Work-In-Progress.

I'm sharing more teasers from my historical romance Work-In-Progress titled, Cowries from a Prince. To read the previous snippets, click here.

Background to today's teaser; Uvbi (heroine) has taken steps to thwart her father's planned action against her. Edokpayi (Uvbi's father) took drastic action

In the scene below, Irinmwian (heroine's mother) is paying a discreet visit to Osarevbie (heroine's stepbrother) and Naru (her husband's guard) in jail.

Cowries from a Prince is set in the ancient City of Igodomigodo in the 1700s.

Enjoy!

Enjoy the Teaser

Cowries from a Prince

Tip-toeing to the backyard, Irinmwian hurriedly filled her woven basket with the cooked food she set aside in the morning. She added the freshly plucked mangoes, pears and bananas.

The clay pot of water leaning against the mud wall caught her attention. Swinging her head from side to side, she filled an empty calabash with water. With jerky movements, she dumped the small gourd into the basket. Covering her basket with banana leaves, she walked through the footpath behind the mud kitchen.

"You are here again?" Greeted the heavily built man with overgrown beard at the prison gate. The first time Irinmwian brought food, he had asked so many questions. After so many trips and gifts, he now welcomed her with a smile.

"Yes. Are they taking care of them?" Her stepson, Osarevbie and her husband's guard, Naru have been in jail for several market days.

"I see them walking around. They have not lost flesh. The prison wardens are taking good care of them just as I promised."

Joy filled her heart. "Thank you." Because she didn’t want them injured or tortured by the criminals in prison, she had to bring him gifts.

Waving at the man, she walked to the police desk. Inside the Police Station, two men argued with the police. They wanted their brother released.

Irinmwian hid behind the mud pillar, until they left. Their brother remained in jail. She didn’t want to be reported to her husband. It was bad enough her hard-hearted husband, Edokpayi had sent her back to her father's house after he found out about Uvbi. To be found visiting those accused of disloyalty could earn her more punishment.

My brothers…I have brought food for Osarevbie and Naru. How are they?"

The short policeman with two big teeth in front looked up from his writing.

He frowned, scratched his bushy dark hair before he greeted her. "Welcome. They have been fairly treated. We placed them in the front cell, where the men have committed petty offense."

Irinmwian sighed. "Thank you, my brother. There are still men in our land who have a kind spirit."

The man put down his pen and grinned. "Hey! Bring the two boys we put in the outer cell this morning. Their mother has come with food."

"Yes sir," a strong male voice called out from behind the post.

"Mother! Mother!" Osarevbie called out. He drew near but the chains around his ankles and wrists stopped him from getting closer.  "Where's Uvbi?"

Tears ran down Irinmwian’s face. "No one knows her whereabouts."

A thin smile passed over Osarevbie's face. Was that relief on his face? It couldn't be. She looked at her husband's loyal servant. Naru's shoulders slumped. The weight of the chains must weigh on his battered frame.

They wore no clothes. Their shorts were torn and worn. They looked like they hadn't washed themselves since they were imprisoned.

"My sons, Osarevbie and Naru, may the God in the sky save you from dying in this place."

Cafe In The Park by Elodie Parkes #NewRelease #Giveaway

A very sunny Friday to you all from London.

Elodie is sharing an excerpt to whet your appetite and the inspiration behind Cafe In The Park.

Cafe in the Park by +Elodie Parkes

Sizzling contemporary romance with paranormal threads

Publisher: Siren Bookstrand

Café in the Park

When Emily joins a dating agency, she never expects to meet someone like Chris.
Everything she ever hoped for in a man, he’s special in more ways than one.
Their intense attraction to each other is fueled by their shared loneliness.
Will Emily find out his shocking secret when someone from his past comes back
to haunt him?

How can love blossom, when someone is trying to tear them apart?

This is erotic, contemporary romance that sizzles. It has paranormal and suspense threads. Siren has classified it as ‘sexstreme’ so you can expect it to be hot.

Inspiration behind the story:

After seeing a number of new advertisements for a leading matching site, into my head dropped the idea of a lonely woman who joins a dating site and actually meets
her dream man.

couldn’t let him be a normal man, because I don’t really believe in the reality
of internet dating. (smiles)

Chris Donato, my hero, had to be different, a fantasy, a paranormal character, so
that I could use the idea at all.

I’ve always been interested in ancient history and know a few legends that have
grown up around sacred sites across the world. I combined a legend about a lost
Roman legion and a legend from Native Americans to form the basis for why Chris
Donato is what he is.

The premise still remains vague within the story because he must retain an air of
mystery.

always fall in love with my characters. Chris, and Emily, my heroine, are very
loveable. Emily is so recognizable, a pretty, intelligent woman, longing for
love and yet without the environment to find it. Chris is the quintessential
paranormal hero, a mystery, an enigma, and yet desperate for love because of
his life experiences. He’s also a modern hero, a singer and guitar player in a
rock band, and a competent businessperson. He’s sexy, kind, gorgeous, adorable,
and something else…

Excerpt
Parking was at a premium, and it took some time to find a spot. She had to walk back
down the street for a good way to the bar. Her stilettos clattered on the
sidewalk as she sped up her pace. She wanted to be in the audience when Chris
came on stage.

Surprised there was no queue, she stepped up to the door and offered payment.

The guy in the booth taking the entrance fee looked her up and down.

“Name?”

Emily was stunned for a few seconds. Then she shrugged and answered. “Emily McKenzie,
why?”

He grinned. “Right answer. In you go, no charge. Chris said you’d get here about
ten.”

Emily raised her eyebrows. “Have you asked every woman that’s rocked up in the last ten minutes their name?”

The guy shook his head. “You fit the description. The band will be on any second.”

Emily went through the black double swing-doors into the bar.

The darkness enveloped her. There was no smoke, but the air was pungent with
different perfumes and tangy with alcohol as people passed close to her.

Her eyes adjusted, and she made her way through the crowded dance floor to the
front rows of people, just as the band came on stage.

She saw Chris instantly. He looked great, dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans. His
hair ruffled back, and his Wayfarers on, he strode on stage carrying his
guitar. Lights played on the band as the lead singer and Chris stepped up to a
microphone.

“Good evening.”

The crowd murmured. A collective wave of bodies swayed forward.

Emily felt as if she’d never heard his voice, never seen him before. He was
different, cool, composed, charming the crowd with just those words.

Everyone waited, the atmosphere charged with anticipation, and then the music started.

Emily watched in awe. They were excellent. Both the lead singer and Chris complemented each other perfectly. She didn’t recognize the song, and then they covered a hit she recognized. She loved the way Chris moved. His hips, his long legs, and the angle of his jaw captured her gaze. He was so gorgeous she could hardly
believe he’d been in her arms in her bed that morning.

As the band finished a third song, he stared right at her. He must see me. She smiled, not really believing he could see her in the darkness. He smiled back at her. Her heart lifted. A swell of happiness brought more smiles to her face. He can see me.
She raised her hand slightly in a little wave.

It is my father - Cowries from a Prince #MidWeekTease11 #Historical

I'm thrilled to welcome you to MidWeek Tease organized by Sandra Bunino. Midweek Tease is a platform for authors and writers to give a peep into their published book or Work-In-Progress.

On today's run, I'm excited to share a teaser from my historical romance Work-In-Progress titled, Cowries from a Prince. To read the previous snippets, click here.

In this scene, Nagudia, the bronze caster and warrior (hero) has an early visitor to his workshop. I want you meet, Uvbi's (heroine) step brother. He has a message for Nagudia.

Cowries from a Prince is set in the ancient City of Igodomigodo in the 1700s.

Enjoy!
Teaser from Cowries from a Prince

‘May today bring good tidings from our forefathers,’ declared Osarevbie, one of Uvbi’s stepbrothers.

Nagudia set aside the crossbow in his grasp. ‘That’s a good wish from your mouth this morning, Osarevbie. I hope all is well. You have missed your bronze casting lessons for two market days.’
In the past twelve market days, Osarevbie had shown tremendous interest in learning the revered trade of bronze casting from his workshop. And as he was a fast learning apprentice, Nagudia often joked about teaching him the sought after secret of the trade.

Uvbi's stepbrother's eyes squinted at him, his jaw tight as a conga drum.

‘Good morning, Nagudia. I have come here with a heavy heart,’ the young man said, his words sounded forced from his mouth.

Nagudia swung his head round and caught his apprentice, Aisosa stretching his long neck in their direction.

‘Can we speak privately?’ Osarevbie asked, frowning at the intrusion.

Nagudia took in a deep breath. Judging the young man had a lot to say, Nagudia cleared his throat. Turning to his apprentice, he said.

‘Aisosa, I want to go for a short walk. Tell anyone who stops by I’ll be back in a little while.’

‘Yes, master,’ his giraffe-necked apprentice answered.

Nagudia frowned at Aisosa and he bent his head, taking a deep interest in his well-worn woven slippers to avoid his master’s disapproving stare.

How many times have I told Aisosa not to call me master?

Nagudia walked down Igun street with a stiff-lipped Osarevbie by his side. He greeted the palm wine tapper delivering kegs of palm wine at the door step of the Palm Wine Bar.

After a while, the silence worried Nagudia.

‘What troubles you? Osarevbie, speak. I’m all ears. Bare your mind.’ Nagudia urged as they strolled past Dr. Eze’s Herbal Medicine clinic.

‘It is my father. He...he plans to...to punish Uvbi in the most cruel manner in this kingdom within the next market day.'

Nagudia halted under the large pear tree by Uselu junction. His head weighed a ton as though a huge coconut cut open his brain.

The scorching heat and hot breeze blew away his dread. For a long time, he rocked on his heels as blood rushed here and there in his chest.

Nagudia's worst fear had been confirmed. Outside her Edokpayi's compound, Uvbi had mentioned her father's threat - I will hold you responsible if my father carries out his threat, and she had laid the blame at his boot-clad feet.

When he had rescued Uvbi in the bush path four sunsets ago and marched her to her father's compound, he hadn't meant to cause her grief. Since then, her piercing dark eyes have tormented him day and night and her angry words followed him everywhere.

And her heaving chest left him breathing too fast now and again. Not to mention her generous hips and legs that could turn a man's good heart into a sinful cave.

When he turned round, the grief-stricken look on Osarevbie’s face almost broke his stony heart.

#RomanceQuotesMonday32

Another free gift wrapped as a new day. Hello and welcome to Romance Quotes Monday.

To ignite your relationship into a lovely mood this week, I have selected three love quotes  from Mills & Boon Desire 2 -in - 1 that touched my heart.
Book Title: Thirty-Day Affair
Author: Maureen Child.
Genre: Contemporary romance
ISBN: 978-0263858945
For the first time in years, I finished reading this novel (paperback) in 2days. I couldn't put it down. My kindle is down and out, so I reverted to the paperback in my closet. Lol! I enjoyed holding a book in my hands.

The quotes are from the grumpy lips of gorgeous Nathan Barrister to the lovely Keira Sanders. I hope you love the quotes as much as I do.

RomQuote #1

"But the truth is, nothing is the same for me anymore, Keira. You changed everything, I love you."

RomQuote #2

"I need you, Keira. Can't imagine my life without you in it. We'll live here on the mountain if you want. Build our own place however you want it..."

RomQuote #3

"I need you to have one (engagement ring), the biggest damn diamond we can find. No, wait. Not one. Two diamonds. Or three or four. We'll look."
