Here is another great week on Brides From Africa.

On today's platform, we have brides from Sudan in North Africa.

The bride's hands and feet are decorated with hand drawn henna to give her a very special look.

The Suanese Sari indicates a woman is married, not the wedding ring.

When the contract, termed agid is signed, someone will fire rifle shots in the air to announce to the women that the wedding contract has been signed.

Al Subhia involves the bride dancing to dallooka songs and changing into different clothes to entertain the party the bride's mother organizes for all the women in the family and for the bride's friends.

Jirtig is the final ritual. The bride wears a red toub and sits with her husband on a beautifully decorated red and gold sheet, called maliyat aljirtig.

The bride is given a cup of milk as a sign of love, peace and hope for a clean and pure life together - a life as pure as milk.

#Brides From #Africa #ZuluBride 6 #SouthAfrica

This is Brides From Africa, where I bring you beautiful and diverse traditionally married brides from across Africa.

This week, we're making a stop in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Zulu people speak IsiZulu, the most widely spoken language in South Africa.

A Zulu bride's most impressive adornment is her beautiful and sturdy hat called Isicholos. The hat is made by an impressive weaving of grass and palm fronds.

Among the Zulus, the bride goes and gets her groom. Also, beaded jewelry is the language of love in Zulu weddings.

Brides-to-be make two sets of bead necklaces in matching colors - one for herself and one for her groom-to-be. Their matching color-coded necklaces and bracelets shows everyone they are an item.

The bride will also carry a miniature knife, an assagai, pointed up to symbolize her virginity. After the marriage is consummated, the knife will be pointed down.

At some point during the during the ceremony the bride does a dance of her own during which she kicks her leg high in order to show her mother that she is a virgin.

In Zulu culture, a group of young virgins and young males perform a wedding ceremonial dance. The dance shows the beauty of African rhythms.

And, the maidens do not cover their breasts when wearing traditional outfits, but they cover the lower part of their bodies with short beaded skirts.

After marriage, the Zulu women do cover their breast to indicate that they are not free for other men's attention.

Welcome to Brides From Africa.

There are weddings bells ringing around the globe and Northern Nigeria isn't an exception.

I bring you stunning brides from Northern Nigeria in West Africa.

In the northern states of Nigeria, brides undergo the wedding Fatiha ceremony. At the Fatiha, the groom formally asks for the bride’s hand in marriage and her bride price is paid.

To enhance the bride's beauty, her body is adorned with lali, a form of body art. Unlike a tattoo, the lali is temporary and washes off after sometime. See the beautiful lali on the bride's hands and feet.

The bride undergoes Budan Kai. This means “Unveiling of the Bride”. This is organized by the groom's family to honour and welcome the bride to her new family.

#Bride From #Africa 4 #KenyanBride

On Brides From Africa today, I'm showcasing stunning traditional brides from the East African country of Kenya!

Kenya is a popular wedding destination as couples often pair their wedding day with the holiday of a lifetime. The country is famous for the thrills of a luxury safari and the white sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean.

Traditional wedding in Kenya involves varied practices.

Among the Pokot, the groom circles the bride's wrist with a leather wedding band.

Below are photos of NBA star Dirk Nowitzki who recently married his Kenyan bride in a traditional ceremony.

Members of the Samburu tribe cross wooden sticks during the wedding ceremony. The practice symbolizes the marriage will grow deep, have lasting roots, and maintain the strength and natural life force of trees.

Before the official marriage ceremony is performed among the Rendille, the girl's earlobes will be pierced and she will have some tattoos applied to her body.

#Brides From #Africa 3 #ZambianBride

Welcome to the third week of Brides From Africa. I'm excited to showcase brides from Zambia.

Zambia is a southern African country surrounded by Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. It is a landlocked country.

In Zambia, traditional Lozi dress called MUSISI is worn for a wedding. This is a unique and lovely African attire.

The bride is dressed in a purple and white Musisi.
