Stop Divorce! #Myopinion #Marriage #StayMarried

Welcome to Advice Bench!

If you are married, can you honestly answer this simple question: Did you attend Marriage Counselling classes with your husband or wife before you tied the knot?

Well, my husband and I, along with other couples attended twelve weeks (once a week) session of marriage classes in our Church before we got married nearly seventeen years ago. The sessions were compulsory and it was led by women who had been married for over thirty years.

During the Counselling Sessions, the women shared their experiences about the problems they encountered in their marriages. I remember one vivid example. The woman told us that when she was pregnant, she craved river water and ate meals served in a clay pot!!! So her husband had to go to the river side to fetch water for her to drink to satisfy her craving.

So after we got married, and  I was pregnant for my first child, I craved fried plantain (Dodo). Even today, my husband recounted how I often insisted he went out at night to go and buy me plantain. And I don't even remember having any cravings. Loool! He put up with it because he had heard worse stories.

Fried Plantain (Dodo)

My Opinion

Yesterday, it suddenly dawned on me that many people walk into marriages these days with their eyes SHUT and hope for the best! How scary! No wonder divorce and separation rates are on the rise.

In my opinion many couples don't even attend Counselling Sessions of any kind before taking a leap into the most important part of their lives.

My Question is:

How can anyone commit their entire adult life to a man or woman who is spiritually and emotionally unprepared to handle the pressure, stress and challenges to come? It is foolhardy.

You do the children a great injustice if you start out in marriage without adequate awareness for your lifetime project.

Marriage is an unending project.

Have you seen Mesut Ozil play football for Arsenal Football Club? He is skilful! It comes with long hours of training. Have you seen an Olympian who wins a gold medal without hard and long hours spent in training?

So how can you walk to the altar, promise to do everything right without committing at least twelve weeks learning the art of rising and falling on the marriage street? Three months to learn the rigours of the most important event of your life.

Parents, don't give away your daughters or sons in marriage without counselling them.

Men and women, don't marry without attending counselling sessions with people who have decades of experience.

My Tips:

1. If you are about to get married, WAIT!

2. Find and attend Marriage Counselling Sessions with your fiancé or fiancée before you walk down the aisle. Both of you will find the sessions useful in the years ahead.

Many stories you will hear will prepare you psychologically for the new life you are about to step into.

My husband and I still recall all we were told during our sessions and we often thank God for our sweet marriage. We call ours SWEET because we know many couples who have gone through WORSE.

Think about these things.

When Women Add #Weight #Afterchildbirth #Weightgain

                        Welcome to Advice Bench!

Every married woman who has had a baby gets anxious about piling on weight. I have seen women with two month old babies in the gym. Come on! Your body needs to recover and you need to eat well to breastfeed the leaders of tomorrow.

Generally, weight gain comes during pregnancy and if you have a tendency to keep the extra weight like me, then you worry about your belly and bingo wings (fleshy arms). Before I got married, I was a UK size 12, sixteen years later and after two kids, I'm a UK size 16/18/20!!

Over the years, we struggle to diet and exercise while still taking care of the children, husband, work and our homes.

The society expects women to look great with nearly flat bellies, no thanks to some female celebrities who go as far as chopping off their excess fat right after childbirth. Ha!

If you have the added pressure from your husband for you to shed weight, I am truly sorry, because that is your cross to bear.

Years ago, I used to worry about doing floor exercises to reduce my stomach but each time my husband walks in on me, he pulls me up, gives me a kiss and asks, 'what beauty pageant are you preparing for?' He does not want me in the gym because he cannot bear for my butt cheeks or boobs to go down.❤ And he is scared of another man giving me the 'eye'. Lol😆

I tell you now that after over sixteen years of a gloriously happy marriage, with my many failed attempts to tone up my belly, plus raising two teenagers who love jiggling my flabs and massive fibroids in my womb, I could not be happier.

Until three years ago I was so active as a working mum, climbing escalators in a heartbeat, racing my teenage children in the park, cooking, shopping and being silly with my hubby 💖

Now with me battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and shortness of breath, my wish to get a toned belly is the least of my worries. All the activities you take for granted such as bathing, talking, walking, running, eating, cooking are a tall order for me.

Still, I have so many more reasons to be grateful to God who has blessed me with the most tender and loving husband, sweet and caring children, a constant string of Flirty & Feisty Romance stories for my lovely readers, wonderful parents, brothers, sisters and friends.

My point is, at age forty - four, through my husband's eyes and my children kissing my soft belly and telling me how chubby and cute I am, I have confirmed that happiness in marriage does not consist of a woman's body shape.

Even with the added weight, you can enjoy your relationship, your children and hotter sex because there are more important things in life than beauty.

I pray that you enjoy the greater things in life: joy, peace, amazing relationship and family time but above all, remain blessed with unconditional love.

THE GARDENER's ICE MAIDEN #Excerpt

In an out of character display of aggression, Olivia placed both hands on his shoulder
and shoved her gardener away.

It was her one grand mistake…

Wanting to give her the satisfaction of getting back at him, he fell on his backside. The minute she laid her fingers on him in that rare show of emotion, she crossed the line. And, he was going to make her pay back in full…

Oliver got up very slowly…keeping his eyes trained on his prey. Taking the few steps to where she stood panting, he grabbed her by both shoulders. Slamming her to his chest, he kissed her clamped mouth. She stood stiffly in his arms. That incensed his male pride.

Wanting to shake her down from her high horse, he held her jaw firmly with one hand and held her back with the other hand. Bringing down his head for a second time, he gave her a bite on her neck.

That seductively intimate act made her moan and her lips parted slightly. Going for the final onslaught, he poked his tongue into her mouth and she went limp in his arms, shutting her eyes. His tongue took permanent residence in the heat of her mouth and his tongue was scorched in the process.

Bringing up his hand to her face, he kissed her cheeks, her neck and would have gone downwards…

But suddenly, her brain received the message that she ought to stop this madness. Lifting up her hand, she hit him across his face. Instantly, he let her go.

Holding his face from the smack he knew he deserved, he turned his back on her. What he did was professionally unethical. He knew he’d gone way too far, but her vulnerability coupled with her infuriating stubbornness had pushed him over the edge.

Having her walk into his home late in the night, speaking to him as if being a gardener made him less than a person was a direct attack at his insecurities. The fact that she paid his salary didn’t give her the right to talk down at him.

He was nobody’s doormat, especially not Olivia’s!

‘I get it. So you come into my life to look for a job, I offer you what you want, you get rewarded, but that isn’t enough for you. You go ahead and warm your way into my son’s life. What is your plan? To wreck my already fragile reputation in New Ferry?’ she paused, trying to make sense of what she’d just experienced.

‘Now…now you lay your filthy…wretched fingers on me, pulling me like some dirty, street tart…’ she choked, trying to get her point across.

Olivia didn’t sleep at all the whole night. Restlessly, she walked up and down her bedroom floor. Every nerve in her body was stretched to breaking limit.

That explosive kiss…

One kiss…no, not one, two heart-melting and nerve jangling kisses... And oh, his lips had felt so warm, so hard, so demanding.
