#BringBackOurGirls - Weeping Eyes

Weeping Eyes, my first attempt at writing a poem is dedicated to the over two hundred Nigerian school girls kidnapped by Boko Haram.

Weeping Eyes

Sunray streamed into the classroom
Hopeful eyes saw the falling broom
As the teacher wiped the blackboard
Loud noise toppled the cupboard
In the twinkle of an eye
Fierce some men rushed by
With machine guns
Clutching matchete
Screaming out orders

Fear dripped into our hearts
Eyes saw a black bat
Indicating bad omen
We screamed, frightened
Cloud of dust everywhere
To safety we're taking you
They chorused
Guided in rows
Our faces blindfolded
Our feet crawled forward
Into wooden trucks of deceit

Dumped into a vast space
Scattered with trees and shrubs
In the fading light
Our vision blight
Without a crackling fire
Flies, reptiles paced around
Withered leaves abound
Fancy birds peck and sing
Of our captivity
Of our fading dream
Of getting educated
To be a role model

Our eyes well up in tears
Hearts heavy with sorrow
As we stared around
At the harsh reality
That we've been kidnapped
Not for ransom
To be sold as slaves
Or sold as wives
To men as old as our fathers
Far away from home
To unknown families
In faraway lands
Our lives of no value
To Boko Haram

Who can save us
To achieve our dreams
To gain freedom
To gain the right to be in school
To marry men of our choice
To have a life we choose
To be with our families
Who love and care for us
In God we trust
Have faith, we must

Thank you, Omolara. Inspiration for the poem came to my family as we roused from sleep. God will set free our girls. Nice to read from you.
