Drum roll please...

We want to know a bit about your family life.

They say write what you know and so I do. I don’t just write interracial romance I live it; my partner is white and always asking if my male characters are based on him (sometimes they are but I tell him they’re not because he’s nosey). I’m also a mommy to a little boy who loves to ask me how my books are going while he play nearby on his Ipad. And I have a fur baby named Messy; she’s a pitbull and scared of plastic bags, brooms and pretty much anything moving to fast for her liking.

What drives you to write romance stories?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. Me and my best friend in the fourth grade were reading and writing romance stories about divorces and finding second chances. I’d always planned to be a writer hence going to college to major in it. I think the driving force behind it is I just love the action of watching two people fall for each other…that initial excitement gets my blood flowing.

Do you have hidden messages woven into your stories?

Sometimes I do and some times I don’t. A lot of times in my books you’ll see a woman go through a miscarriage or have a terrible pregnancy. Again, I write what I know and I’ve experienced that horrible pain. In some ways writing about the worst pain I’ve ever experienced from the view point of a character has been really therapeutic and freeing. However, those women characters, much like I did, still wind up picking themselves up and dusting their shoulders off. Hopefully that’s the message I’m leaving to persevere even when its hard.

What’s the best thing about your writing and publishing routine?

The best thing about my writing routine is sprinting. If I say to myself just work for 20 minutes and see what you get, usually I’ll keep plugging away at the task and wind up with a larger word count.

What steps did you take to publish your first book?

I didn’t really take any. I literally wrote a book and through it on Amazon and made about one red cent. About two years later I came back and had no fear and really started pushing my work.

How did you come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s your favourite character and why?

For my most recent book, Broken: A Dark Mafia Romance….I wanted to combine two things: mafia and dark sexual tendencies. My favorite character though has to be the main character’s little brother Des. He offered a good amount of comic relief but he was really a back ground player. Loved him to bits but who knows, he might make a pop up in the next book.

What’s the hardest thing about the publishing process?

For me the the hardest part of the publishing is after the book is published. Making sure you’re promoting and pushing your book is just as important as writing it.

Why should a new reader buy your book(s)?

If you want good dialogue, action and sexy Alpha males…I have you covered. Oh, and not to mention, strong black females!

Working on a new book/project?

I’m currently in rest mode but the next ideas for a spin off from my last book is brewing. I’ll be getting started on that in another week.

Brag about any awards or badges.

I won a $40,000 scholarship to my university for writing called the Creative Talent Award.
