#BlackAuthorsMatter ~ #AuthorInterview with @KaseyMartin

Hello Romance Lovers,

Welcome again to my Series on Black Authors Matter. After my New Release; Longing for You: A BWWM Sweet & Steamy Romance hit Amazon US #1 New Release in African Literature on June 1st 2020 and became a #1 Amazon US Best Seller on 17th June 2020, I decided to start a movement to promote Black Romance Authors or Authors who write about characters of colour. Let me also add that Longing for You was also #2 Amazon UK Best Seller in African Literature on July 14th 2020!

In the coming weeks, I'm going to showcase one black romance author after another and their great books.

Relax on a recliner and take a sip from your choice drink because you are about to meet the number 20th Black Romance Author on my list. Her name is Author Kasey Martin! Kasey was born and raised in Okhaloma and she now resides in Texas, USA.

Drum roll please...

What drives you to write romance stories?

I write stories that I can see myself in. I wanted to see more representation of black female lead characters so I decided to write my own.

Do you have hidden messages woven into your stories?

Yes, I tend to have messages hidden in my stories. I like to write about different relationship dynamics that happen in black families, and how childhood trauma can lead to adult toxicity.

What’s the best thing about your writing and publishing routine?

The best thing is definitely writing the story. When different characters want their time in the light, I welcome the story. I love figuring out the who and the why and getting it all down.

What steps did you take to publish your first book?

With my first book, I just wrote the story and submitted it to the publisher of some of my favorite authors. A few weeks later, I was offered a contract and two months after that I was a published author. It happened really fast and the process was an easy one for me.

How did you come up with the idea for your recent book/Who’s your favourite character and why?

My most recent book is part of a series that I wrote with two other authors. Our books are all standalones, but the characters are all intertwined. The idea came to me because I wanted my book to fit the premise of the others but also be original. It was a really fun experience, and that’s why the main character Lennox Nash is my favorite. I was able to write him raw, dark, and unapologetic.

What’s the hardest thing about the publishing process?

I’ve only self-published one book out of the twelve that I have published, so the discipline that comes along with editing and staying on task was the hardest part for me.

Why should a new reader buy your book(s)?

I think people would enjoy my voice. My characters are often relatable even though their stories are dramatic with a lot of plot twists.

Working on a new book/project?

I’m finishing up another book in the Arrangement Series. I’m super excited for my readers to get Sawyer Nash’s story after the little taste of him in my last book, Heartbeat.

Brag about any awards or badges?

I became an Amazon Best Seller with my fifth book, and 7 of my books went to #1 in their respective categories.

Any thoughts on Black Lives Matter Movement?

I am very outspoken about BLM and any other movement concerning black people. We have been treated badly from the jump, and its time for all that to come to an end by any means necessary.
